About
Our History
Chicago's Pride race since 1982.
Proud to Run began in 1982 when 40 runners and walkers gathered on the lakefront to mark Pride Week in a way that was meaningful to them and to give back. Today we are one of the oldest Pride races in the country.
Every year since, the race has been held the Saturday before the Chicago Pride Parade. It now welcomes more than 1,000 participants, from first-time walkers to competitive runners, and has grown into a year-round community organization with programs, teams, and Community Partnerships.
Over the years our giving has supported local LGBTQ+ organizations working in health, housing, youth empowerment, advocacy, and the arts.
